SPL Updates:<= /b>

The scouts met on 9/26/05 for detail planning.  Engineer= ing is the subject for October.  Ther= e will be three meeting to cover Engineering.&nbs= p; Scouts would like to build rockets.=   Scott checked into the costs and it is about $10.00 a rocket for the rocket and engines.   The= troop will pay 50% of the scout’s first rocket.  If the scout wants a second rocket= , they will need to pay the entire cost.

Michael Parks has arranged for a tour of the L3 Communications (Gener= al Dynamics).  Cliff will contact Michael Parks to work out specifics.

New policy for campouts – money needs to be turned in the Monday prior to the camp out.  This w= ill give the patrols the money they need to shop for the food.  This is effective immediately.  The average cost for the campout is $10.00.

Old Business:=

Troop trailer – Alan will check with Dan from GMCS, would be wi= lling to donate old trailer for possible parts. Cliff discussed the possibility of J&M Machining possibly fabricating the trailer for us.  Cliff will stay in contact with Mi= chael Parks.

Open Adult Lead positions – There are still scout leaders who n= eed an adult to mentor them following is the list of adults who have signed up = for mentoring.

Troop Handbook distributed to most of the current scouts an= d new scouts will receive theirs’ soon.&nb= sp; Handbook is also on the website for reference.

New Business:=

Fund Raiser(s) – Popc= orn sale starts October 8.  We will sel= l at St. Francis Saturday and Sunday with the St. Francis Cub Scouts.  More parishes have said okay allow= ing us to sell popcorn that weekend also.  Order forms will be given on October 3.  FYI for new scouts, approximately = 30% of your popcorn sales (show and sell as well as take orders) goes directly into your scout account and can be used for scout activities (summer camp) or equipment with scoutmasters approval.

The pancake breakfast is se= t for October 9.  We have most of the items needed, this breakfast should be mostly profit.

Note:  Profit from both the pancake break= fast and popcorn sales at the masses will be combined and distributed evenly according to hours worked.

Tents – this past Mon= day the SPL group set up tents in Wilma Hall.  The tents are in rough shape.  Three tents had bad zippers out of six.  We currently have six good tents t= hat were purchased in 2001 we need to purchase six more to give us 12 good tents.  Three adult tents were purchased last year.  We have = 20 very active scouts that like to camp on a regular basis.  Consensus was to purchase six more= tents.  Shelley to che= ck into pricing at Campmor and GoG= ear to see if they will match Campmor.

Alan M will take an old can= vas tent and investigate the process of water proofing them.

Camping Equipment – a recommendation was made and approved, that the troop will purchase two large propane tanks for stoves and lanterns.&nbs= p; Cliff to purchase two lantern posts and do a trial run with borrowed tanks at Owasippe.

Troop Outing Assignments &#= 8211; Each committee member is asked to signup for an outing and plans the outing= .  Cliff offered to put together a li= st of what is required when it needs to be submitted.  (Ex. tour permit, physicals etc= 230;)

2006 Summer Camp/High Adven= ture – Joe made check out to Gerber to secure the week after July 4th= .  The scouts still need to decide on Gerber or the High Adventure.  Most boys will not be of age for the High Adventure camp.  It was suggested that maybe anothe= r high adventure trip could be planned for the older boys.

Open Discussion:

Alan M asked about the poss= ibility of borrowing a school bus for some of these trips Alan A will check on.

Scott working with Stephen = to complete his requirements, help may be needed from parents to ensure this w= ork is being done.

Joe & Dan F organized t= he storage room at Wilma hall (a fine job they did).  Joe asked if they could purchase m= ore storage bins and shelves if needed.  The consensus was to purchase what was needed.  Joe will hold off until the storage shelves in the back room are organized there may not be a need.
